The First Lady attends the ceremony of announcing the winners of the competition “Ask Your Grandparents” within the “Days of Remembrance 2023”
The First Lady Armanda Begaj was present at the finalization of the “Ask Your Grandparents” competition, organized by the Institute for Democracy, Media and Culture, within the “Days of Remembrance 2023”, which focuses on self-consciousness and awareness of young people, about the communist past of Albania.
Evaluating the competition, which this year was in its fifth edition, the First Lady said that, “The right thing to do is to remember the past – a bitter past for us Albanians, not to glorify it, but to not forget the victims and their sufferings”, Mrs. Begaj said, as she thanked the young people for their exciting work.
As in previous editions, the “Ask Your Grandparents” competition invited young people aged between 15-19 years to reflect on the past in Albania, through creative works individually or in groups. Through this competition, high school students were able to tell events experienced by their family members, including cases of persecution or executions in the dictatorship. Over 150 creative works by young people were realized in essays, visual arts, multimedia and the best creations were awarded with prizes.
