During his visit to Prishtina for the international forum on “Women, Peace, and Security,” the President of the Republic, H.E. Bajram Begaj, was received today at the office of the Presidency of the Republic of Kosova by President Vjosa Osmani for a one-on-one meeting.
Following the meeting, the two presidents gave a statement to the media:
Statement by the President of the Republic of Albania, Bajram Begaj.
Thank you, President Osmani!
It is always a pleasure to be in Kosova, as I often say, in my second home.
It is a pleasure to participate in this important international forum on “Women, Peace, and Security,” a forum that serves as a soft power for Kosova and shows that we must learn from history and appreciate it well, that in addition to honoring the lives lost, we must honor those who were abused during that time. And who more than women have felt this kind of abuse?!
I believe violence is unacceptable, unjustifiable, and any form should be condemned, should not be archived, and never repeated.
Of course, we should not live with the past; we should value the present and think better and more strategically about the future.
The relations between our two states I would not call very good politically, as is the common term, but are as they should be. They are extraordinarily good and brotherly.
We are two states, but one nation and we have a duty to be close to each other at all times, in good days and bad. Naturally, it is important to work for our peoples, for their welfare, and economic relations need to be developed.
Besides the agreements that have been signed, they need to be felt by the people, they need to be implemented as quickly as possible. I believe some strategic projects that are being realized in the future, such as the Port of Durres or the railway, which will interconnect communication between the two countries, are extraordinarily important for increasing the well-being of our peoples. Naturally, in international relations, one of Albania’s values is that our foreign policy is aligned with European and Euro-Atlantic policies.
Having just completed a highly successful term at the Security Council, Albania has a duty to always be a good advocate for Kosova for new recognitions or for membership in international organizations, and this must be done at all times.
I am very hopeful that tomorrow we will have a successful vote in the Council of Europe and this will give us even more inspiration to do good work in the future. I wish for our cooperation to continue. Naturally, we must respect each other, listen to each other, and take advice from internationals.
Congratulations for tomorrow and many thanks for today’s reception!
It was an extraordinary forum and the reception was exceptional as always, like at home.
