President Begaj meets with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican’s Secretary of State
As part of his visit to the Holy See, the President of the Republic, His Excellency Bajram Begaj, had a meeting with Vatican’s Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
President Begaj appreciated the excellent progress of interstate relations, following the restoration of diplomatic relations in 1991.
The Head of State, also, appreciated the role and support that the Holy See and particularly Pope Francis have given not only to the spiritual revival of Albanians of the Catholic faith, but also for promoting Albanians’ history and model of religious coexistence and harmony.
President Begaj also acquainted Cardinal Parolin with Albania’s commitment and progress in the EU integration process, its engagements in strengthening good neighbourly relations in the Western Balkans region, as well as its contribution as a non-permanent member of the Security Council of Nations United for the period 2022-2023.
Focusing on Kosova, President Begaj appreciated the very good canonical relations between the Holy See and the Catholic community of Kosova, expressing his confidence in Vatican’s future commitment to the consolidation of peace and security in the Western Balkans region.
“In spite of all the progress achieved so far, peace and security in the region still remain very fragile, thus reaching a legally enforceable agreement for the normalization of relations between Kosova and Serbia would be the best contribution to peace, stability and progress for the entire region” – underlined President Begaj.
