The President of the Republic, H.E.Mr. Bajram Begaj received in a meeting the Speaker of the Canadian House of Commons, H.E.Mr. Anthony Rota

The President of the Republic, H.E.Mr. Bajram Begaj received in a meeting today, the Speaker of the Canadian House of Commons, Anthony Rota.

President Begaj assessed the visit of the Speaker of the House of Commons, Rota, as an important moment for bilateral relations between Albania and Canada. It coincides with the celebrations of the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Underlining the very good and friendly relations, consolidated even more in the last two decades, President Begaj praised the progress of the political dialogue, as well as the close partnership within the NATO alliance.

President Begaj made a special assessment for the support that Canada has given to the integration and preservation of the historical and cultural heritage of the Albanian community that lives and works in this country, considering it as a bridge of friendship and cooperation. As an added value regarding this aspect, President Begaj appreciated the bilateral agreement for mutual recognition of social insurance.

The Head of State, also appreciated the cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries and expressed the belief, that the Speaker of the House of Commons, Rota and other Canadian MPs will provide their assistance in furthering diplomatic representative relations in their respective capitals.

From his side, the Speaker of the House of Commons, Anthony Rota, appreciated the progress made by Albania and assured President Begaj of his and the House of Commons support, for the further progress of bilateral relations.

The two interlocutors also discussed the latest world developments, Russian military aggression in Ukraine, threats to peace, security and the current world order, the impact of climate change on security issues, as well as joint commitments and the need for coordinated bilateral and allied responses. They also focused on the developments in the Western Balkans and the importance of continuing the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, as the best way to reach a comprehensive and applicable agreement.
