The First Lady, Armanda Begaj visited the Orphanage and the Home for Elderly in Shkodra

The First Lady, Armanda Begaj engaged in several social and cultural activities in Shkodra, during the first visit of the President of the Republic, H. E. Mr. Bajram Begaj, in this city, on October 5th.

In the context of ‘Pink October’, an awareness and solidarity initiative against breast cancer, Mrs. Begaj visited the Specialty Polyclinic ‘Bahri Kopliku’, in the city of Shkodra.

Based on the increased presence of women and girls who were waiting to perform a mammography examination, in the framework of the prevention of this disease, the First Lady emphasized to them the importance of continuous care for medical checks, noting that ‘through screening and early detection, the battle with this enemy of life can be won’.

During the conversation with the director of this polyclinic, doctors and nurses, engaged in patient service, they informed Mrs. Begaj about the increased number of mammograms, about 50 per day.

Psychological support for women who are facing this challenge, but also their families, is another important issue brought to the attention of the First Lady, who encouraged the staff of the Polyclinic to focus on this aspect as well.

The First Lady also visited the orphanage, 6 to 15 years old, in Shkodra, where she met with the children, educators, social workers, as well as the directors of this institution.

‘It was a pleasure meeting you today. You live in a big family, which requires more understanding, care and love for each other. I want you to know that learning well at school today will be a guarantee for your future tomorrow’, said Mrs. Begaj.

The First Lady pointed out the irreplaceable role of the staff of this public institution in creating a family atmosphere, making a significant contribution to the education and personality of these children.

She was informed by the Head of the orphanage about the organization of a meeting with heads and teachers of professionals schools in Shkodra, to give them the necessary information for their future.

Part of the social agenda, during the visit of President Begaj, was also a visit to the Home for Elderly in Shkodra.

During a friendly conversation with the elderly, the director and the staff of this institution, the First Lady focused on the need for more attention and care from the whole society towards them and not only within the center.

She expressed her gratitude to the staff who serve them and encouraged them to do their best.

‘It is very important, that regardless of the job we have in life or that we once had, we never forget that we must be human first’, said the First Lady.

At the end of the visit to the city of Shkodra, the President of the Republic and the First Lady visited the ‘Marubi’ National Museum of Photography, where a rare wealth of the city’s photographic archive is preserved and exhibited.
