H. E. Mr. Bajram Begaj, President of the Republic, attended the upcoming Meeting of Leaders of the Brdo-Brijuni Process in Skopje, North Macedonia. During the Plenary Session of the Heads of Delegations of the Brdo-Brijuni Process, held behind closed doors, President Begaj delivered his speech discussing his perspective on the summit.
President Begaj gave the following opinion in a press release to the media: “As we know, this meeting today comes at a crucial time from the geopolitical situation, which is related to the Russian aggression in Ukraine. The Western Balkans nations must come together to discuss the issues they must face. The challenges are very similar in all Western Balkan countries, and the issues addressed during this summit were related to the Western Balkan countries’ integration into the European Union and some very sensitive issues for our peoples, such as youth, emigration, and climate change challenges.”
At the end of the meeting, the Heads of State at the Brdo-Brijuni Process approved a joint statement that highlighted the necessity to accelerate the EU enlargement process with the Western Balkan countries, cooperate and coordinate efforts to address the effects of climate change and develop joint initiatives and programs to reduce the impact of young people emigration from the region.
Throughout the day, President Begaj held bilateral meetings with some regional Heads of State. Initially, President Begaj met with North Macedonia’s President, H.E. Mr Stevo Pendarovski.
During the meeting, The presidents acknowledged the excellent relations between Albania and North Macedonia as an example of constructive cooperation for the benefit of both the two nations’ prosperity and the entire region’s progress.
Additionally, the Head of State met with H.E. Mr. Jakov Milatovic, the President of Montenegro. The meeting’s primary objectives were to improve relations between Albania and Montenegro and to enhance their shared interest in promoting the European agenda. The two countries are significant in the region’s stability and prosperity.
A meeting with the Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency representatives, Zeljko Komsic, Denis Becirovic, and Zeljka Cvijanovic, was also on the agenda. To have a Western Balkans that is secure and quickly integrated into the European Union, it was discussed with them how crucial it is to foster a spirit of regional and comprehensive cooperation.
