President Begaj welcomes the Rapporteur for Albania in the European Parliament, Mrs. Isabel Santos
The President of the Republic, H.E. Bajram Begaj, received today the rapporteur for Albania in the European Parliament, Mrs. Isabel Santos, to discuss about Albania’s European path, reforms and challenges.
President Begaj appreciated the work and contribution of MEP Santos and her colleagues in the preparation of last year’s report on Albania, underlining its realism and spirit of support with regard to Albania’s opening of accession negotiations and the first EU-Albania intergovernmental conference.
President Begaj appreciated the significant support that the European Parliament has given to the EU enlargement process of Albania and other Western Balkans countries, underlining that “the support of the European Parliament is necessary in achieving the accession objectives and the holding of the second EU-Albania intergovernmental meeting”.
Focusing on the new geopolitical developments, after the Russian military aggression against Ukraine, the Head of State underlined that Albania will always remain a reliable partner of the European Union, as regards matters of its foreign and security policy, upholding EU positions and decisions.
The interlocutors also focused on the developments in the Western Balkans region and specific regional challenges, the countries are facing, especially in the new geopolitical conditions.
