On International Museum Day, First Lady Armanda Begaj, accompanied by a group of students from the “Shaqe Mazreku” elementary school in Durrës, visited the tower in the Byzantine fortress of Durrës, known as the “Venetian Tower”.
This Cultural Heritage monument has now been transformed into a multimedia interpretation center of the city’s ancient history.
Reflecting on this year’s theme for World Museum Day, which focuses on education and scientific research, Mrs. Begaj conveyed the message about the importance of growing up with a culture of museum visits and an appreciation for history. She encouraged all children to explore the rich cultural heritage of the city of Durrës.
“Children should come here to learn about the history of Dyrrachium and through it, the history of Albania,” Mrs. Begaj stated during her visit, emphasizing the significance of a nation’s past for its present and future society.
The visit to the Venetian Tower deeply moved the young students, who were impressed by the historical images projected onto the tower’s dome through digital media. They promised to express their reflections through essays and paintings.
Continuing her tradition of promoting reading in Albanian, Mrs. Begaj gifted each participating student a book as part of the activity “Discover the rich cultural heritage of the city of Durrës”.
