President of the Republic, H.E. Mr. Bajram Begaj, addressed a special New Year’s message to compatriots in Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and the Diaspora.
“Happy New Year 2025!”, wished President Begaj, along with his hopes for a more prosperous, developed, secure, democratic, and European Albania.
“In our tradition, the New Year is a time for family unity, celebration, joy, and prayers for a prosperous year ahead. This moment is a precious opportunity to unite around our values and aspirations, looking together towards the future,” expressed the President of the Republic, who extended his greetings and thanks to all Albanians at home and abroad, who contribute daily through their work and dedication towards a more peaceful, prosperous, and European Albania.
A special greeting was sent by the President to all those who spend New Year’s Eve working and away from their families, those who are emigrating, studying, or serving on missions abroad.
Describing the change of years as a moment for individual, family, societal, state, and national reflection and assessment, the President of the Republic emphasized that “Albania still has challenges to meet the expectations, aspirations, dreams, and desires of its citizens.”
“The past year,” notes President Begaj, “marked achievements in many areas, demonstrating our resilience and determination to consolidate democracy and the rule of law, strengthen partnerships and international image, and embrace technological innovations.”
“Once poor and isolated, Albania today is an active member of NATO, is negotiating for membership in the European Union, hosts international summits, and welcomes millions of tourists. Albania today is where judicial reform is ending the culture of impunity. Albania today empowers and enfranchises the vote of the Diaspora.”
The Head of State stressed that all Albanians share the same hope and vision for the future:
“The reforms that will prepare Albania for tomorrow require effort and commitment from each of us. Albania needs a more active, transparent, and accountable policy. The country needs officials with integrity and strong institutions that guarantee the values of democracy and the rule of law. As a state and society, we must focus on long-term challenges, aiming to foster consensual and sustainable reforms to narrow the social gap between generations, areas, and social strata. Above all, we need to strengthen the role of the family, education, and civic awareness.”
Addressing the youth, the President of the Republic asked this generation to preserve heritage, the Albanian language, and connections to the homeland alongside embracing new innovations.
Regarding the electoral year, the President of the Republic called for reflection, learning from past mistakes, expressing that Albania has the opportunities and capacities to achieve its goals.
“The electoral year 2025 is a test for us to show that we have learned from past mistakes and that we have the ability to look forward,” expressed the President of the Republic, H.E. Mr. Bajram Begaj.
