The President of the Republic, H. E. Bajram Begaj received today the Letters of Credentials from the new Ambassador of the Delegation of the European Union in our country, H. E. Christiane Hohmann.
After welcoming Ambassador Hohmann to Albania and assuring her about his and the Albanian institutions’ support as well, President Begaj expressed his gratitude for the political support and financial assistance that the European Union has provided to our country during the last three decades. President Begaj expressed in particular his gratitude about the financial assistance given for dealing with the great damage caused by the earthquake that took place in November of 2019, as well as for dealing with and easing the situation during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The President of the Republic expressed also his belief that the arrival of Ms. Hohmann in Tirana will provide a new boost to Albania’s relations with the institutions of the European Union, as well as to the EU accession negotiation process itself.
Among other things President Begaj emphasized the political willingness of Albanian institutions to advance on the path of reforms, stressing that the European integration remains the biggest project and priority of Albania and Albanians.
“Being aware of the challenges and difficulties that the European Union itself and its member states are going through, after the Russian aggression in Ukraine, I express the belief that the attention of the European Union to the Western Balkan region will be even greater, considering the process of enlargement as the best geo-political instrument in addressing the threats to the peace and security of the region and of our continent as a whole.” – underlined President Begaj.
