On the International Day for Monuments and Sites, the First Lady Armanda Begaj was in Berat along with a group of students from this city, to visit the “Onufri” Iconographic National Museum, as well as the “Solomon” museum, dedicated to the rescue of Jews.
Mrs. Begaj chose the city of Berat, registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List, in order to raise students’ awareness about the importance of knowing the Albanian cultural heritage.
Today’s visit of the First Lady is a continuation of her initiative and of the President of the Republic, H.E.Mr. Bajram Begaj, to promote Albanian cultural heritage and to emphasize the importance of educating children regarding this heritage.
At the “Onufri” National Museum, the students listened with great curiosity Mrs. Anila Dobroniku, the guide of this museum, who explained to them like in a history class, what icons are and why they were necessary for the time.
They also had the opportunity to get to know the craftsmanship of Onufri, as well as other iconographers exhibited in the museum.
Speaking to the children, Mrs. Begaj said, among other things: “You children have the great fortune to grow up in a city with a very ancient and extraordinary cultural heritage. Berat is an asset of yours, of ours, but also of all humanity. Therefore, you have the beautiful task to get to know your city, your country, to appreciate its artistic and cultural wealth, to preserve it, but also to promote it wherever you are.”
After visiting the “Onufri” Museum, the First Lady along with the accompanying students, also visited the “Solomon” Museum, which is dedicated to the history of the rescue of Jews in Berat.
Along with the desire and commitment to promote reading and knowledge of history among children and young people, Mrs. Begaj donated them books, on the heritage and history of Albania.
