The President of the Republic of Albania, H.E.Mr. Bajram Begaj, attended the ceremony dedicated to the 110th anniversary of the establishment of the Supreme Court.
In his remarks, President Begaj said: “Today is a holy day for Albanian justice, the National Justice Day. In these 110 years, our political history has had a difficult journey, a journey in which the justice system has also gone through in search of achieving an independent justice system, establishing equality before the law, an efficient and transparent system, in the interest of society and in defense of democratic values.”
“The contribution of each and every one of us here present, local and international actors, is essential for the construction of a legal culture with professional standards and high ethics that conveys the necessary trust towards those who expect justice” – the President further said.
The Head of State confidently expressed that the justice reform which started in 2014 and culminated in the adoption of constitutional amendments in 2016 has not been easy because its establishment and implementation – including challenges and obstacles, have caused delays beyond the constitutional and legal provisions, even beyond the predictions of the drafters of the reform.
Lastly, President Begaj said: “As the President and as a citizen of this country, I request a guaranteed access to justice, which is closely related to the new judicial map and the independence of the system, therefore the reason of the justice reform. Quality of justice is and should be the measuring criterion to determine the work of all actors involved. I also wish that the institutions you represent, will be an example of success by demonstrating daily professionalism, integrity and impartiality.”
