On the afternoon of May 1st, continuing his visit to the Arbëresh region of Calabria, the President of the Republic, Mr. Bajram Begaj, held a meeting with the residents of the municipality of Firmo.
President Begaj conveyed the message of interaction among communities with different cultures and in this aspect appreciated the role of the Arbëresh for the strength of their identity, cultural heritage, folk tradition, and folklore.
Referring to the annual tradition of the “Dance”, which in this village is preserved as a symbol of Skanderbeg’s victory, President Begaj emphasized that it remains always inspiring. He addressed the participants in this “Dance” festival to promote the recognition of identity and cultural diversity.
“Today, more than ever, we need to see especially the youth ‘dance freely’, who must play a fundamental role in preserving this heritage. The youth are the future ambassadors of our culture and the bearers of the Arbëresh and Albanian identity flag”, said President Begaj, who stated that generations need to be prepared to face the challenges of globalization while preserving the uniqueness of their heritage.
“The Arbëresh culture and tradition, as a very important part of Albanian culture, are a testament to the strength of freedom to survive through the centuries, even under difficult conditions and significant historical changes”, valued President Begaj.
As in previous meetings with the Arbëresh, in Firmo, the Head of State conveyed the message to preserve traditions, culture, and language, as a way to remember the origin but also to build a sustainable future.
