On the National Day of the Diaspora, President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Bajram Begaj, hosted the Coordinating Council of the Albanian Diaspora at the Presidential Institution.
Expressing his gratitude and special appreciation for their contributions to the Albanian nation, the President emphasized, “The Albanian state, in fulfilling its constitutional obligations, must protect the rights of Albanians wherever they temporarily or permanently reside. It will continue to promote all values associated with our historical and cultural heritage worldwide.”
In his address, President Begaj noted, “You, the members of the Diaspora, are Albania’s most positive energy; you are the most inspiring example of how Albanians, despite challenges, have managed to integrate and become active members of the states where they reside while never forgetting their homeland, which is of utmost importance.”
The President also praised all initiatives by the Albanian Diaspora aimed at protecting, preserving, and inheriting the Albanian language, especially thanking volunteer teachers for their extraordinary contributions to teaching the language.
Together with the Coordinating Council of the Diaspora, the President discussed ideas and proposals on new ways to facilitate the learning of the Albanian language by diaspora-born children through the creation of national television platforms.
After receiving thanks from the Council for his steadfastness in the battle to enable diaspora voting from his first day in office, the President remarked, “The diaspora vote is very important, and the decision to set the election date on May 11 was made to realize this vote. I believe the diaspora vote is very significant for Albania,” reiterating his conviction.
In this meeting, President Begaj announced that he would continue his initiatives to promote the values of the good Albanian model wherever they are, live, and work, preserving the Albanian language as the DNA of our national identity, promoting reading in Albanian, and our rich historical and cultural heritage.
Concluding the meeting, President Begaj expressed that he views the Albanian Diaspora as one and indivisible, and that “only by being united can we be stronger.”
