Today, the President of the Republic of Albania, H.E. Mr. Bajram Begaj, spent the day with Albanian troops stationed at the Western Regional Command, “Camp Villagio Italia”, KFOR, in Peja, Kosova.
President Begaj exchanged New Year 2024 greetings with them.
Initially, the President met with Colonel Gabriele Vacca, the Commander of the military base.
During the meeting, President Begaj once again expressed his appreciation for KFOR, describing it as a success story. “What you are doing here is very important in defending the values of freedom and maintaining peace and security in the region,” President Begaj told Commander Vacca.
He thanked Italy for leading this base and coordinating troops from various countries, which have now established very good cooperation among themselves. The President signed the base’s Book of Honor.
The President’s visit continued with a meeting with the Albanian troops serving at the base, whom he thanked for their service to the country and the flag, and wished a new year filled with health, prosperity, and peace.
“I thank you for your dedication, professionalism, and responsibility in performing your duties.
Though you are far from your families, rest assured that you are always in our minds and hearts,” President Begaj addressed the military personnel.
Additionally, President Begaj added, “As representatives of our country in peacekeeping missions, you elevate the name of Albania and Albanians wherever you are. You embody our best values. Thanks to your work, our country is considered a reliable partner in NATO.”
In the current global security context, your commitment constitutes a critical contribution, emphasized the President. “Albania will continue to contribute to maintaining peace and security in the region and beyond as a NATO member.
Naturally, this requires an increase in the defense budget and support for our Armed Forces, support for your families, and creating conditions for you to be treated and prepared as best as possible.
Today, NATO is not only a military alliance but also a guardian of the values of the democratic community worldwide, so we will continue our utmost commitment to defending the values of Western civilization, to which we belong.”
Later, President Begaj visited an exhibition of the kinetic battalion’s military equipment at the base and joined the officers of the base for lunch.
