President of the Republic, H.E. Mr. Bajram Begaj, today welcomed Ms. Rina Amiri, Senior Official at the U.S. State Department and Special Envoy for Women, Girls, and Human Rights in Afghanistan, for a meeting.
President Begaj expressed his pleasure in hosting Ms. Amiri for the second time within five months and welcomed her warmly to Albania.
During their discussion, President Begaj expressed pride in Albania’s commitment to human rights as a member of the UN Human Rights Council, and reaffirmed that the agenda for women, peace, and security remains a priority.
He commended Ms. Amiri for her role in the Office of Global Women’s Issues and for her contributions to protecting women’s rights in Afghanistan.
Acknowledging the importance of the summit for Afghan women currently being held in Tirana, President Begaj highlighted this as an opportunity to address the challenges facing women and girls’ rights.
He emphasized the significance of aligning the summit with the anniversary of September 11, 2001, as a poignant reminder that history must not repeat itself.
