The President of the Republic, Mr. Bajram Begaj, today met with the European Union Ambassador in Tirana, Mr. Silvio Gonzato, who officially presented the Progress Report on Albania’s European journey.
“A good day for Albania,” remarked the President, referring to the opening of negotiations on fundamental chapters. The Head of State evaluated the 2024 Progress Report as a motivation for all Albanian stakeholders to work even harder together towards accelerating the process aimed at full membership in the European Union.
“Albania has definitely entered a new phase of relentless advancement towards full EU membership,” highlighted President Begaj, who also expressed confidence in the opening of other chapters in the negotiations with the EU before the end of this year, during the Hungarian presidency.
The President conveyed his gratitude to Ambassador Gonzato for the official Brussels and the President of the European Union, Ursula von der Leyen, for their support, goodwill towards Albania, and faith in the progress made in fulfilling the integrative reforms.
The President appreciated the encouraging fact that the expansion of the union into the Western Balkans has strongly returned to the European Union’s political agenda. “The European Union, by following a credible enlargement policy, facilitates the stimulation of reforms and the hope for full European integration of the Western Balkans,” assessed the President of the Republic, Mr. Bajram Begaj.
