President Bajram Begaj today commemorated the “National Martyr,” Indrit Cara, in Kavajë on the 26th anniversary of his fall in the Kosovo War, at a solemn ceremony where his monument was unveiled.
The President laid a wreath at the statue of “Ushtar Kavaja” in honor of his sublime deed for the nation.
In his speech at the ceremony, President Begaj acknowledged the determination and sacrifice of the 28-year-old from Kavajë, who left England to join the men fighting for Kosovo’s liberation, emphasizing that Indrit Cara belongs to Kosovo, Albania, and all Albanians: “He was born in Kavajë, but today he belongs to Kosovo, he belongs to Albania, he is part of all Albanians. Indrit Cara is an example and symbol of courage, a pure spirit of patriotism, and a heart that strongly beat for the freedom of the Albanian nation. He is a name etched in our nation’s history, a model of inspiration showing the way for our youth: the spirit of sacrifice, the strength of unity, and the importance of acting for the good of our nation.”
President Begaj stated that remembering Indrit Cara serves as a reminder for all to maintain a permanent commitment to not let the dream for which he gave his life be extinguished: “His sacrifice serves as a compass for our future, for a united nation, for a strong Albania, for a Kosovo that moves forward, free and proud.”
The President also honored figures who led the efforts for Kosovo’s liberation: Ibrahim Rugova, Adem Demaçi, and Adem Jashari, and highlighted the responsibility for cooperation not only of politicians but of every citizen to preserve and pass on the legacy of our forefathers.
