President Begaj to Journalists: Believe in the ideal of free expression. You have my support in this noble cause!
The President of the Republic of Albania, His Excellency Bajram Begaj, participated today in the annual journalism award ceremony organized by the Union of Albanian Journalists.
In a special message to journalists, the Head of State emphasized the importance of media in reshaping society and the challenges faced in their mission to report the truth.
“Often criticized, frequently underestimated, and seldom properly appreciated, your work is linked to the belief in a noble cause: impartial information and an analytical sense to give meaning to everyday social life,” he stated.
President Begaj encouraged the journalism community in their mission, assuring them of his support.
“This cause requires professional and idealistic people, who believe in the ideals of freedom of expression and public responsibility. Therefore, I urge you not to give up in the face of difficulties, as your commitment and courage to deliver accurate and objective information to the public is a contribution to societal well-being.
You should feel not only encouraged but also secure in performing your duties. I take this opportunity to reiterate my maximum support for you. Instances of physical violence against journalists should belong to a closed chapter, just like cases where professional and expressive freedom is jeopardized through direct or indirect pressures.”
The President of the Republic of Albania, His Excellency Bajram Begaj, praised the promotion of successful examples in journalism as models to be followed by future generations.
