The President of the Republic of Albania, His Excellency Bajram Begaj, made the first move at the International Chess Championship in Durrës, which gathered hundreds of young talents from around the world, aged between 8 and 12 years.
Present at the opening ceremony of the championship, President Begaj commended the organization of such events as an effort to bring more culture and dedication to a unique sport for the new generation. According to the head of state, this competition is a significant event for Albania.
“This way,” declared President Begaj, “our country can showcase itself not only as an organizer of Summits and Ministerials but also as a host of events promoting international sports talents.”
“Children are the future, and it is very important to promote and appreciate them,” emphasized the President, who reaffirmed his commitment to engaging children and youth in sports.
President Begaj also extended special thanks to the President of the Albanian Chess Federation, Erald Dervishi, the Albanian Olympic Committee, and the Ministry of Education, Sports, and Youth.
“Albania is proud of its chess players who have gained international recognition, great names like Erald Dervishi, who currently leads the chess federation and has managed to organize this extraordinary event, raising Albania’s name on both the national and international stages,” expressed President Begaj, who hoped that this championship would produce future world chess champions.
The International Chess Championship saw the participation of 350 children from around the world, including 60 from Albania.
