President Begaj Unites Representatives of All Political Spectrums in Tivat, Montenegro

President of the Republic of Albania, His Excellency Bajram Begaj, convened representatives from the entire political spectrum in Tivat, Montenegro, urging them to unite beyond party colors to protect Albanian interests. During his visit for the Brdo-Brijuni Process Summit, the President took the opportunity to address the challenges faced by the Albanian community in Montenegro.

Similar to last year’s meeting in North Macedonia during the Day of the Alphabet, President Begaj emphasized the importance of strengthening connections among Albanians across all regions. “On major national issues, we as Albanians must stand together regardless of our political and ideological differences which might otherwise pit us against each other. Such competition should remain healthy. We need unity on matters concerning the Euro-Atlantic orientation of Albanians, a non-negotiable dream and aspiration of our people,” President Begaj stated.

“We cannot fence in our people,” the President remarked, supporting initiatives aimed at removing barriers at regional borders. He praised the representatives of Albanians in Montenegro for their efforts and advised against tolerating anti-Albanian actions: “If we see attitudes that clash with the interests of Albanians, that contradict our European path, our NATO membership, these are red lines. While individual opinions cannot be opposed, actions can be. We will never agree with actions that go against Kosova, its recognition, or its voting in international institutions.”

President Begaj stressed the need for greater representation of Albanians in administration and beyond. He expressed concern over the assimilation of Albanians, calling for a long-term strategy focused on preserving national identity through education, language, and Albanian culture.

He also celebrated the adoption of a unified Albanian alphabet textbook in Montenegrin schools teaching in Albanian. “From now on, students in these schools will learn Albanian using the same textbooks as their peers in Kosova and Albania. The alphabet teaches us the language, and language is the root of the nation. Without language, there is no nation,” he highlighted.

In discussions with President Begaj, representatives of Albanian political parties in Montenegro recognized their role in the economic, cultural, and political development of the country. They expressed optimism about strengthening their future position and reaffirmed their commitment to influencing political and economic life in Montenegro. President Begaj assured them of his personal support for any initiative that benefits the strengthening of the Albanian factor in the region and beyond.
