The President of the Republic, H.E.Mr. Bajram Begaj, received today in a meeting NATO’s Assistant Secretary General for Intelligence and Security, Mr. David Cattler.
President Begaj appreciated the contribution of NATO’s intelligence structures in dealing with complex security challenges. President Begaj underlined that the cooperation between the intelligence structures of our country and those of NATO is essential to prevent the malignant influences of countries with unfriendly goals.
Furthermore, President Begaj discussed with Mr. Cattler regarding the situation in the Western Balkan region, where despite the progress made, there are attempts by actors with geopolitical ambitions, to expand their influence and hinder the Euro-integration processes.
He also emphasized that the agreement reached for the normalisation of relations between the Republic of Kosovo and the Republic of Serbia is a positive step which should proceed with the achievement of concrete results.
The normalisation of relations must focus towards mutual recognition and Kosovo’s membership in international organizations such as the United Nations (UN) and NATO.
On the whole, President Begaj emphasized that Albania’s intelligence and security structures will continue to contribute and cooperate closely with NATO structures.
