President Begaj lays a wreath on the “Skënderbeu” Memorial
The President of the Republic of Albania, H.E. Mr. Bajram Begaj laid a wreath today on the “Skënderbeu” Memorial in Lezhë, commemorating the 555th death anniversary of our National Hero Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu.
In the speech, delivered at the commemorative ceremony, organized by the Municipality of Lezhë, the President of the Republic noted: “the history of the Albanian nation is that of achievements, resistance and resurrection, in spite of geopolitics, in spite of prejudice, in spite of divisions, so strongly insisted upon by more powerful states. Gjergj Kastrioti’s life reminds us of the uniqueness and strength of an autochthonous people, with no appetites for the territories that do not belong to them, but standing steadfast onto their own lands”.
Availing of this opportunity, the President emphasized that “the life of Gjergj Kastrioti is a demonstration of the success of believing in oneself, coveting nothing of others. Gjergj Kastrioti Skenderbeu is not a legend, he is a hero and, above all, he is a truth”.
“Gjergj Kastrioti”, the President highlighted, “is our National Hero and we are grateful to him for his struggle, efforts, successes and example. And, Albanians know gratitude. Gjergj Kastrioti was, above all, an Albanian like others, throughout the centuries and of nowadays, who have a heart filled with love for this land, who have faith in their qualities, and know how to achieve success for themselves and for many others. Today, such Albanians live in Albania and everywhere in the world”.
Concluding, the Head of State called to all that “Albanians, wherever we may be, we should be aware of our qualities, every day, but especially on such days, when we commemorate the European hero and our role, as a people, in world history. We should know how to protect these qualities with wisdom, knowledge and cooperation, just like Gjergj Kastrioti did”.
