A captivating exhibit titled “A Piece of Art” arrived this Friday from Tetovo to Tirana. The President of the Republic, H. E. Bajram Begaj, opened the doors of the institution to young artists from the municipal middle school of textiles in Tetovo. They showcased their talent through creations inspired by tradition. The 63 works displayed at the Presidential Institution conveyed a variety of avant-garde artistic streams in textiles, furniture, and interior design, unified by a common element: Albanian heritage.
President Begaj, in his welcoming remarks, described them as missionaries continuing the preservation of the nation’s spirit and promoters of cultural and educational values. “Your vocational school has a multi-year tradition in designing various garments, applied arts in interiors, furniture, and artisanal and food productions, and this is a model deserving of promotion across all Albanian territories, nationally. Today, I have also invited students from the Artistic Lyceum of Tirana, studying in the same field as you, so that both schools can build bridges of cooperation based on the development of young talents in art and textiles.”
The Head of State advised the young artists to continue preserving and promoting tradition: “I encourage you, dear students, to never let your artistic imagination abandon the national elements and the artistic spirit of Albanians that have been poured over centuries into our traditional attire. They are garments of our national and cultural identity, inherited and enriched from generation to generation.”
Referring to the UNESCO-protected Xhubleta and the Tropoja Dance, President Begaj expressed that “We must continue to work hard so that our millennia-old costumes from other Albanian regions can be transformed into a treasure for all humanity.”
The event was also attended by the Mayor of Tetovo, Bilall Kasami, who appreciated the President’s initiative in service to Albanian heritage: “With this action, the President demonstrates his commitment to the Constitution of Albania to be the President for all Albanians, including those outside ethnic Albanian territories.”
Students and teachers from Tetovo exchanged ideas with artists and professors from the Artistic Lyceum of Tirana on creating opportunities for institutionalizing the union of the youth in Albanian territories.
