Message from the President of the Republic, H. E. Mr. Bajram Begaj, upon the conclusion of the consultation process for setting the date of the 2025 general elections

Today, I concluded the consultation process with the political and institutional stakeholders regarding the scheduling of the general elections for 2025.

The authority to set the election date resides with the President of the Republic, but I am very pleased that the entire parliamentary political spectrum was involved with opinions and suggestions in this process, both directly by participating in the consultation meetings and indirectly through the expression of party preferences.

From the consultations, I observed that the opinions were generally guided by the best interest of the voters and not by the petty calculations often expected in such cases.

The convergence of thoughts, despite differences in political stances, was the most significant display of this consultation.

For me, setting the election date is not merely a constitutional obligation or a formal legal procedure; it is primarily a robust test of cooperation, understanding, and commitment of all political and institutional actors on behalf of and for the voters, as well as a significant opportunity to highlight the crucial importance of elections for the consolidation of parliamentary democracy.

The paramount duty of political actors is to transform the spring 2025 parliamentary elections into a success story for the Albanian people and democracy, where the rule of law, fairness, and ethical communication of platforms should shine, along with respect for the voters and their expressed will.
