PRESIDENT BEGAJ’S SPEECH ON THE OCCASION OF THE PROCLAMATION OF TIRANA AS THE CAPITAL OF ALBANIA

Distinguished ladies and gentlemen,

Dear friends,

Welcome to this modest ceremony to celebrate together the 104th anniversary of the proclamation of Tirana as the capital of Albania.

I wish to start with a special thanks to the representatives of some of the indigenous families of Tirana, who are the cornerstone of a capital as traditional as it is modern. Tirana cannot be understood without talking about its generous inhabitants. Over the years, “Tirana’s people” have warmly, generously, and kindly welcomed Albanian brothers and sisters from different lands without any reservation.

From its beginnings, Tirana was the embodiment of the finest Albanian values, of tolerance and understanding, cooperation, and respect for others.

A part of our people’s history is engraved in Tirana. The capital has transformed over the years from a junction connecting the main roads of our regions into the main political, economic, social, and cultural center of the Albanians. Tirana is a success story.

The city’s history is undoubtedly the marvelous story of the residents of Tirana. Each generation has left its mark in history, architecture, urban planning, and above all, in its patriotic, nationalistic, and pro-Western spirit. Tirana and its citizens have been ahead of progress, turning it into the capital for all Albanians, wherever they may be.

Today, Tirana is a vibrant city, living at an accelerated pace. It strongly preserves the tradition of welcoming, understanding, and the possibility of a good life. It is our duty to continue to preserve traditions and contribute to enriching the life of the most colorful capital of our region, the ageless Tirana, our common Tirana.

Thank you!
