Reaction of the President of the Republic, H.E. Ilir Meta regarding the latest developments in Bosnia and Herzegovina

I express my deep concern at the escalation of the efforts of Republika Srpska of Bosnia and Herzegovina to withdraw from state institutions and to establish parallel institutions of the army, courts and the tax system.

The initiative of the legislators of the assembly of the Republic of Serbia to begin the work for the establishment of these institutions and the drafting of a new constitution, go in the opposite direction to the 26-year efforts of Bosnian citizens, local leaders and the international community to strengthen peace and security in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

By undermining in this way the Dayton Peace Accord, regional stability is seriously endangered and the livelihoods of citizens of all nationalities aspiring to peace and prosperity are made more difficult. They also severely damage the rule of law and the European integration perspective of the country and the region.

I call for the engagement in dialogue of the politicians of RS and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to resolve their disputes in mutual trust, in order to advance the necessary reforms to improve the lives of citizens, advance the integration processes of their state, which would also serve to strengthen peace and security throughout the Western Balkans region.
