The President of the Republic of Albania, Mr Bajram Begaj, attended the commemoration of the Special Forces Battalion’s 25th anniversary. The President recognised the contributions the members of this elite Armed Forces unit have made over the years.
“The establishment of this structure 25 years ago came not only out of necessity for the times but also as a natural outcome of our Euro-Atlantic vision. Your battalion was our first endeavour to become part of the world’s most successful military alliance. And it was a success.”
As the Supreme Commander of Albania’s Armed Forces, President Begaj expressed gratitude towards this battalion for its involvement in the country’s civil emergencies and its dedicated service on missions abroad in countries like Kosovo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Iraq, and Afghanistan, bestowing upon Albania the dignity of a NATO member.
“If it hadn’t been for your perseverance, dedication, professionalism, and patriotism in your challenging missions, our efforts would have been in vain. Whether serving in Kosovo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Iraq, and Afghanistan, or domestically assisting the population during civil emergencies, you have elevated the reputation of Albania as a worthy NATO member and your names as frontline security professionals.”
Addressing regional and international tensions, the President stated that the repercussions of these conflicts could spread to other regions. The head of state recognised NATO’s contribution to maintaining peace and security in Kosovo and the region through the KFOR mission.
“We will continue establishing multilateral ties, developing strategic partnerships within the Euro-Atlantic framework, and defending our sovereignty while fostering peace and harmony. The armed forces’ role and contribution to preserving peace and security are of utmost significance. Therefore, investing directly in you ensures our country’s security and shared future.”
President Begaj reaffirmed Albania’s commitment to regional peace and security and its unwavering alignment with Euro-Atlantic aspirations.
