From Bologna among Albanians and Arbëresh, in the presence of leaders from the Emilia-Romagna region, President of the Republic of Albania, Mr. Bajram Begaj, called for seizing every opportunity to strengthen ties and build new bridges of cooperation between Albania and Italy. The event named “Incontrarsi” featured President Begaj as the honored guest: “Thank you for this warm invitation and the opportunity to be among you today at this meaningful event. ‘Incontrarsi’ carries a significant meaning. For us Albanians, every meeting is a new opportunity to create and strengthen bonds and to build bridges of cooperation.”
The President extended an invitation to the Arbëresh community, the Albanian community, and our youth studying at the University of Bologna, one of the oldest in Europe, to create as many cooperative networks as possible to strengthen identity, enhance integration in Italy, and give the community there an even greater role in economic, cultural, and political life.
“Albania needs all Albanians, wherever they are,” emphasized the President, committing, “As President of Albania, I want to assure you that I will support any initiative that strengthens the ties between the Arbëresh, Albanians, and Italy, preserving and promoting democratic values, our identity, and contributing to a better future for Albania and an excellent future of cooperation between Albania and Italy.”
While acknowledging the contribution of the Arbëresh in preserving roots, describing them as custodians of a precious part of Albanian identity, the President also addressed young Albanians who migrated after the 1990s, whom he called an exemplary model of integration. “These are similar paths, paths of success secured through hard work, dedication, and respect for Italian laws and culture,” stated President Begaj.
“In this story of success, I must highlight the extraordinary role of Italy. It has been and remains a valued friend to Albania. For the Arbëresh, it became a home that offered shelter and opportunities to create a new life while preserving their heritage. For today’s Albanians, Italy turned into a second home where they not only integrated but also actively contribute. Italy has been and remains our greatest advocate in the European integration process and a strategic partner for our development.
Our relations are based on historical, cultural, and human ties,” expressed President Begaj, who extended his gratitude to the highest authorities of this city and the Emilia-Romagna region, for their support in further intensifying Albania-Italy cooperation. A special thanks was directed to the “Korabi” Association, expressing: “Not only is Korabi the highest mountain in Albania, but it is also where the eagles reside. Eagles live long. What is important about eagles is that, by staying high, they look far and clearly.”
