Arben Shehi – Advisor on Urban Development, Environment and Tourism

He was born on September 19th, 1954 in Shkodra, in one of the oldest city families distinguished by both intellectual and patriotic traditions. He was graduated as architect in 1977 at the Faculty of Construction Engineering, Architecture Branch at the University of Tirana. From 1977-1979 he was executive engineer at the metallurgy combine in Elbasan. From 1979 till 1982 he was project designer at the Institute of Civil and Industrial Designs in Tirana. From 1983 – 1992 he was leader of designing team at the Institute of Light and Food Industry Designs for a considerable number of civil and industrial constructions throughout the country. Starting from 1986 till 1993 he developed an intensive carrier in the academic field as lecturer at the Chair of Architecture of the Engineering Faculty for the subject of composition of industrial designs. In 1991 he was awarded the title “Scientific Collaborator” and started to work on postgraduate studies in collaboration with the Chair of Architecture of the University of “Politecnico di Torino”. From 1992 – 1993 he started with his master study at the University “Politecnico di Torino” in the area of “urbanisation of residential zones and assignment to industrial zones in the margins of population migration from rural to urban zones”. In 1993 he was Director of Foreign Relations at the Chamber of Commerce of Albania. In 1994 he was elected as the President of the Chamber of Commerce in Albania. In 1995 – 1999 he was elected as first President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tirana. He contributed to its membership with the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris, the establishment of the Association of Chambers of Commerce in Balkan Region (ABC), promotion of links to Euro-Chamber, American Department of Trade etc., as well as to the cooperation with about 90 notable institutions of business promotion worldwide. He was member of many international forums, such as the Information Bureau of International Chamber of Commerce in Paris (ICC), Director-representative for Albania to the Board of Directors for the Initiative of the Black Sea Countries (BSC), First Vice President of the Association of Chambers of Commerce of Balkan countries (ABC), National Advisor to EU Initiative “Europarteneriat” etc. Since 2000 he was also engaged with some non-profit organizations (Business Innovation Centre etc.) , with focus on the promotion of sustainable economic development, primarily on quality systems and intellectual property. Furthermore, he was strongly involved in the provision of advisory services in the field of project designing and intellectual property (i.e. Consulting Office “Ardit & Partners”-2007”). He headed over 100 business missions, institutional visits and participation in various forums with many countries in the Region, Europe and worldwide, where most notable are the official visits to “Euro-Chamber” in Brussels, International Chamber of Commerce in Paris, American Department of Trade Washington DC etc. He is author of a variety of speeches presentations in various national and international events. He is a good connoisseur of several foreign languages. He is Member of the Albanian Association of Architects and Member of the Union of Albanian Writers.
