Prof. Dr. Dashamir Xhaxhiu - Director of the Cabinet

Prof. Dr. Xhaxhiu was born in Tirana in 1957. After graduating from the Agricultural University of Tirana in 1982 he was appointed Assistant in the Department of Physiology-Biochemistry of the Veterinary Medicine Faculty. In 1989 he became Doctor of Sciences in the field of Metabolism and its disorders and on the same year was appointed as Pedagogue of the Subject of Biochemistry and Responsible of the Department of Physiology-Biochemistry. During the period of 1991-92 he finished postgraduate studies at the Technical University of Munich in Germany. In 1993 he was appointed Dean of the Veterinary Medicine Faculty and held that post until 1995. Throughout all this period, Prof. Xhaxhiu initiated some projects to re-structure the Agricultural University of Tirana and the Veterinary Medicine Faculty and served as member of a few national and international boards. Due to his entire contribution in the field of scientific research, domestically and abroad, and also in teaching as well, he received the title of Professor in 1994. During 1996-97 he taught at the Free University of Berlin in Germany as a Humboldtian and at the same time conducted studies in the fields of Metabolism and Endocrinology. In 2004 he was appointed Director of the Veterinary Researches Institute. Prof. Xhaxhiu is also the Chairman of the Albanian Association of Humboldtians – an association that aims to encourage contacts among Albanian universities and European ones and the promotion of young and talented Albanian scientists. Prof. Dr. Xhaxhiu has published a great number of articles in national and foreign scientific magazines, and has participated in many international events: congresses, conferences, symposiums, etc. He is the author of a number of university teaching texts. Thanks to his contribution as a scientist and pedagogue, Prof. Dr. Xhaxhiu is a well known figure not only in Albania, but also abroad. Prof. Xhaxhiu is a god connoisseur of a few foreign languages.
