President Nishani received and held a meeting with the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs Bonino

The President of the Republic of Albania, Bujar Nishani received today and held a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy, Emma Bonino, who is conducting an official visit to our country.

During the courtesy exchanges, Presidenti Nishani and Minister Bonino praised the relations between our countries and peoples as special, based on tradition and strengthen through close cooperation during recent decades in difficult and successful moments for Albania by adding that these relations will remain such even when the two countries will be in the European Union.

Then President Nishani emphasized that the successes of Albania in consolidating democracy and rule of law, accession into NATO, free movement and progress in the European integration process are fruits produced by the efforts the Albanian people and institutions, but that would have been hard to accomplish them without the support and help of our partners, among which Italy has played and should play in the future a visible place and role.

President Nishani guaranteed the interlocutor about the continuation of the reforms, the determination of Albania to contribute even in the future for the sustainable peace and stability in the region and expressed the conviction that our country will gain the status of the candidate country to European Union based on its accomplishments and merits.

In her response, Minister Bonino, after congratulating Albania about the up to the present achievements, convey the approach of Italy to continue the support provided to Albania on its European integration path, the willingness to strengthen the bilateral cooperation and the aim to have in 2014, during the Mediterranean Year, more attention by the Europeans towards the opportunities and challenges represented by this region which must be included in the European Union priorities.
